- CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM -

Striving 4 Excellence

character_development

DOUVRIS Martial Arts strongly believes in developing the character of our students along with the martial arts skills we teach them. The Striving for Excellence character development program was developed with over 30 years experience in teaching children respect, confidence and self-discipline. Striving for Excellence gives our members the opportunity to discuss, practice, and apply character development traits in their lives. The program includes a Karate Kids Workbook and a Karate Tykes Colouring book which children complete each month at home. The lessons outlined in the workbook are designed to accompany the “Word of the Month” which instructors discuss with students during each class.

The Word of the Month for March is

Respect

Respect is one of the words most often associated with karate, and for a good reason. We care about it a great deal.

Karate practitioners are taught to bow when they enter a dojo, when they greet their Sensei, when they start working with a partner and so on. This not only shows respect for the long tradition of the art and for all the practitioners who came before us, but it is also a great way to acknowledge the wisdom and knowledge that our instructors share with us. We bow to offer thanks for the opportunity to learn from each other.

“The staff at Douvris Kemptville are outstanding they have done so much for my two children and I am so happy they have joined and were recently invited to world Ontario regionals where they placed second and third for point sparring and were so happy to have Sensei Earl with them for each of their fights.”

About Douvris Martial Arts

DOUVRIS Martial Arts is a karate family. We are devoted to cultivating the practice of karate, supporting the pursuit of fitness, fostering kinship, and developing leadership among people of all ages. We offer consistently high‐quality programs in Martial Arts, Fitness, and Leadership throughout Ottawa‐Carleton and Aylmer.

Founded in 1984, the DOUVRIS name has been synonymous with excellence in karate for 30 years. Brothers Master Sensei John and Master Sensei Peter opened their first dojo so they could share their enthusiasm for karate with the Ottawa community. They wanted to create a karate school in Ottawa that would provide people of all ages a family-friendly place to gather and train at their own pace.
